Asia Minor Travel Seminar 2025

TRAVEL SEMINAR

The Asia Minor Travel Seminar is back for another year and it will introduce undergraduate and graduate students to the history of the Christian communities that existed in late Ottoman Asia Minor.

The seminar will be set in the Center for Asia Minor Studies, with a focus on the oral history accounts of refugees recounting life in their Asia Minor villages prior to their uprooting by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. The second portion of the seminar will be a trip to the Black Sea coast of Asia Minor (Turkey) to Trabzon (Trapezounda), Gumushhane (Argyroupolis), Ordu (Kotyora) Giresun (Kerasunda), Samsun (Amisos), Amasya (Amaseia), and Istanbul (Constantinople).

The Asia Minor Travel Seminar is led by Professor Tom Papademetriou (Stockton University) and Professor Pachalis Kitromilides (University of Athens) and is sponsored by The New York Life Insurance Company Center for the Study of Hellenism in Pontus and Asia Minor at Hellenic College Holy Cross, The Dean C. and Zoë S. Pappas Interdisciplinary Center for Hellenic Studies of Stockton University, and the Centre for Asia Minor Studies.
