Photographic Archive

The photographs that make up this rare collection portray the area of Asia Minor prior to the displacement; they depict the social and daily life of the Greek communities there from the end of the 19th century until 1922. Following this historical juncture, both the place and the themes change. Now, images of the refugee resettlement in Greece become predominant.

The material of the Photographic Archive is classified chronologically and thematically as follows:

  • Life in the settlements of Asia Minor before the displacement of 1922/1924
  • Post-1922/1924 images of the refugee resettlement in Greece
  • Photographs of associates of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies on missions to collect material in Asia Minor and Greece
  • Photographs of refugee witnesses of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies accompanied by their biographical notes
  • Photographs of Karamanlidika inscriptions donated to the Centre by Richard Clogg
