The Centre for Asia Minor Studies

The Centre for Asia Minor Studies has been engaged since 1930 in research on the history and culture of Asia Minor Hellenism, particularly during the last phase of its lengthy trajectory in its ancient homelands. The primary objective of its research has been the collection of the oral tradition of Asia Minor Hellenism and the documentation of its presence across the entire geographical expanse of the Asia Minor peninsula.

The Library

The Library of the Centre for Asia Minor Studies serves as a repository of exceptional archival diversity and as a documentation centre for Asia Minor studies. In terms of its bibliographical sources, the Library keeps abreast with relevant contemporary historical output and fosters scientific exchanges with related institutions in Greece and abroad.

Archives

The Centre for Asia Minor Studies holds an unprecedented wealth of sources and records on the historical presence of Hellenism in Asia Minor: the Oral Tradition Archive, the Manuscripts of intellectuals and others from Asia Minor, the codices of Orthodox communities and parishes, the Maps Collection, including draft maps, the Documents Archive and the Photographic Archive.

The Musical Folklore Archives

The Musical Folklore Archives (M.F.A.), founded in 1930 by Melpo Merlier, is the oldest centre for the study of Greek traditional music – Byzantine, folk and rebetiko – and has collected recordings and archival material of invaluable significance.

The Centre for Asia Minor Studies actively participates in contemporary academic dialogue. It collaborates with universities and research centres in Greece and abroad and provides archival material to scholars and researchers with the aim of promoting research on topics related to Asia Minor.
